EEC 457/557 – Modern Applications of Digital Communications

Course Description and Objectives

A review of basic digital communication techniques, analysis of digital modulation and demodulation, design and performance analysis of optimum receivers, basics of mobile communications, application of modern and vehicular communications in intelligent transportation systems, evolution from 1G to 5G and cellular networks, mmwave and 5G, 5G standards and specifications, 5G use cases and architectures, eMBB, mMTC, URLLC use cases, 5G NR air interface and radio access network.

Grading

This course is cross-listed as both an undergraduate and a graduate course. Letter assignments will be made in accordance with the grading policies of the university. The course contains a project (a report and resentation). The topics will be announced in the second week of class.
