Our community initiatives focus on the strategic use of sensing, communications, signal processing, Internet of Things technologies, and intelligent solutions to address regional environmental, industrial, urban, and educational challenges across the country, particularly in Ohio. By transforming advanced engineering research into accessible, deployable platforms, we strive to build a technologically knowledgeable and environmentally resilient community.

K-12 and Pre-College STEM Engagement

  • Hands-on Research: Engaging high school students in summer research programs that utilize real-world engineering projects to introduce core engineering principles.

  • STEM Summer Workshops: Hosting specialized workshops aimed at increasing early awareness and demonstrating how our technology can address those challenges.

  • Contextual Learning: Connecting foundational STEM concepts to visible community challenges, such as water and air quality monitoring, to inspire the next generation of regional engineers.

Engaging with Regional Organizations

  • Great Lakes Science Center (GLSC): Participating in public awareness events and technical demonstrations at GLSC. We leverage these platforms to showcase how IoT technologies address urban and environmental needs.

  • Cleveland Water Alliance (CWA): Collaborating with the CWA ecosystem to address environmental issues in the Greater Cleveland area and on the preservation and monitoring of Lake Erie.

  • Ohio Department of Transportation: Collaborating with ODOT to provide solutions for air quality monitoring using aerial platforms in areas such as highway construction.

Water Quality Sensing and IoT

  • Environmental Dashboards: Developing interactive, public-facing visualization tools that translate raw sensor data into actionable insights for the community and local decision-makers.
